What to do with this Four Year old?

So I am reaching out to all the mothers I can find. 

When I was putting my daughter's jacket on her this morning for school, I found little toys in her pocket that I knew didn't belong to her.  SO I asked her where she got them from and immediately she clammed right up.  I was infuriated, because I had never seen her do this before. 

We were running late, as usual, because my daughter has NO sense of urgency to begin with.  I told her that either I would walk her in to school to return the items to her teacher or she would do it on her own.  She said not to tell on her and that she would give it back to her teacher. Crazy me actually wanted to believe that she would indeed do this on her own rather than get the wrath of mom for not doing it. 

To my chagrin when I picked her up this afternoon, she hadn't done as instructed and I was forced to call her out on it in front of her teachers.  Well come to find out that she apparently does this in class all the time.  WHAT?!  I have never seen her do this with anyone where she hadn't given it back.  Her teacher tells me it's the age group, so not to worry.  Oh yeah are you going to tell me not to worry when she's 15 and stealing from stores???  LOL (OK, so a little dramatic, but you get my drift.) So she was forced to go into her bag and remove the items and give them back.

In discussions with my husband, we have decided to take away her blankie for 2 nights.  If any of you know my child, you realize that this is a huge punishment.  Needless to say that I think I will not be getting any sleep for the next few nights because of this.  However, a point needs to be made. 

So my question for everyone is if you've gone through this and how did you handle things?

Valentine's day cards

So I thought this year that I would make my daughter's Valentine's Day cards.  After seeing all the Pinterest posts as well as other mom's creative projects, I was overwhelmed.  No way could I find the time to do this and make them cute. 

On Valentine's Day Eve, I was sitting at work and came up with the great (and easy) way to get these cards done.  I went on Google and found Valentine's Day images.  Of course there were a million and one different images to choose from.  I found two different designs and simply copied and pasted them into a Word document as "labels."  They ended up being the perfect size, about the size of a business card.  From there, I pasted them to card stock/manila folder for sturdiness.  Perfect!

Later that night, I made small Valentine cookies that were heart-shaped.  The perfect size for little fingers without being a TON of sugar.  I iced them and outlined them and then let the icing firm up over night.  Now, I was trying to find cute heart covered snack bags to put them in, but no such luck!  Had to use plain plastic snack bags.  Didn't go to bed until like midnight and still had to wake up early to finish them off.  Wow!!!

Adventures in Online classes

Happy New Year Y'all!!  So my year is starting with a new semester of school.

My largest challenge is going to school while doing Pampered Chef, Scentsy amd my full time job.  I love attending Kennesaw State.  This semester I decided to do all online classes and actually taking 3 classes instead of 2.

In doing this, I decided that I need to organize my life.  So far I have my Criminology class binder completely organized by "module."  I just wish I could get the info for the rest of my classes.  Technically all classes begin on Saturday, and 2 of my professors haven't even opened the links for their classes.  I just want to start off the semester well.  Maybe this way I will actually keep up with.

Another aspect is time management.  I need to find a way that I have time with family, time for studying and work time.  Any time management tips would be grateful. 

I know Supernanny does the charts.  So I have one of those larger dry erase board calendars and a cork memo board. What can I do with these to make a "communication center?" Pinterest?

Oh the adventure of online classes.  I have a hard time with normal classes.  Best of luck for the semester.

New Year's Resolutions

So how many of you are actually doing New Year's Resolutions??

I have been pondering these over the last couple of days.  We all know that weight loss/gym time is always on our list.  So I started to do that early.  I began that yesterday to get a jump on it before New Years.  We all know that the gyms get packed right after January 1st.

Well what else would be on my list?  The biggest thing is getting organized.  I sell Pampered Chef and Scentsy and I have stuff all over the house.  In fact, everything in my life needs to be organized.  Every room in my house has something that needs to be cleaned out, labeled, etc.  I think this a pretty reasonable resolution and would've been a great thing to start while I was off work this week!  Ha!  Nope!  Slept in til at least 10 every morning.  A mom needs a break when she can get it!

Another wish on my list is to get all our household projects done and finished.  We have this small alcove in our room between our in room office and bed, want to put shelves up to make a bookcase there.  Need to install tile flooring and finish trim work along all the base boards.  Doesn't seem to hard to finish, but my baseboards have been this way for the past 4 years.  Men always start projects, can they just finish them?  LOL

New Christmas Adventure

So my daughter has been off of school for 2 weeks so far.  I was trying to come up with some new ideas to keep us out of the house and not spend a lot of money.  What was it you ask?  Rollerskating!!!

When we walked into Skate Country, I was immediately thrown back to my skating days as a kid.  Heck!  It was the same kind of music.  As we sat at the snack bar after a round on the rink, my 4 year old daughter was amazed at the kids doing the Hokie Pokie out on the middle of the floor.  I was mesmerized watching her reaction.

After many falls, my daughter decided to pack it up for the day.  It was her first ever trip to the skating rink and it was a success. Heck I was amazed I still had some skating skills.  The best part was that I found out I burned around 700 calories for the time we were there.  Not a bad afternoon!!  :)

The Start of a New School Year

It's amazing to me how fast the years go by. 

This school year brings new adventures for my little one.  This year she's in Georgia Pre-K.  I'm excited, because I don't have to pack lunches or snacks.  All I have to send her with is a blankie or stuffie to sleep with at school.  Oh how I miss nap times during the day.  LOL

She is at a different school this year and I sense that she is hesitant to be there.  However, I know she is still excited, because her friend from the neighborhood will be at the same school. YAY!

This is also the first school year to balance a sports schedule along with both our school schedules.  I almost thought we would have to pull her out o baseball because the schedule hasn't been made. Thank God for the Commissioner.  He was very helpful.

So I have to say that we are both kind of anxious about the start of our school year.  Thankfully, I should only have 6 more semesters until I'm done.  Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Becoming a Sports Mom

Ok y'all.  Who has young ones in sports?  I just signed my 3 yr old up for Fall Baseball.  I am not sure what is going to work for her to keep her in it.

I know schedules can get crazy and how do you keep it all organized.  I will have school and so will she.  Please let me know what works for you.

It started with me saying I would never be a mini van mom and now I have one.  I would never be a soccer mom and here we are with Baseball.  I love keeping my daughter in different types of activities.  I think it will be a great adjustment for her.  I think she will love it.  I just need it to keep her interest.

So here's to a new adventure for us all.  :)

Watching Your Family Age

I just got back from Michigan after taking care of my elderly grandmother.  She was in a rehabilitation center for a fall back in March that resulted in a broken hip/hip surgery. 

It is hard to see my Grandma in such a fragile state.  I've always seen her as such a fighter and for sure I think my mom and I got that from her.  I remember looking up at my grandparents when I was young and thinking I wanted to be as tall as them.  Hello! I was taller than them by the time I was in high school.  Maybe even younger than that.  LOL.

This visit was my way of connecting with my Grandma more.  We do butt heads a lot on things as I know she does with most of my family.  We enjoyed some nice conversations with each other.  I know I didn't get a chance to do so with my Grandpa before he passed back in July 2008. Heck my husband knows more stories from my Grandpa than I did.  What's up with that? 

I think it's important to pass down stories and I miss that I didn't find out more from my mom before she passed.  Our family on both sides, between my husband and I, have both dwindled significantly.  Heck 3 people from our wedding have passed in less than 5 years.  It's scary to look at pictures and think back to that day and realize they aren't around anymore.

I was spared seeing my mother age.  She was such a little spitfire up until the day she died.  That's the way I would want to be remembered.  That's the hardest part of aging.  I can't imagine living to 83 like my Grandma Goetz, but 93 like my Grandma Selleck?  Yikes!  That woman still goes to Florida every Winter and remembers birthdays.  She had a double knee replacement few years back and still looks like a million bucks. 

As my family dwindles, it makes me wish more kids were around and that we had stayed more together.  I think of how much better mom would've been had she moved here sooner.  I hope that as we grow older, we share more with each other, so we have something to pass down to our kids.  Too many memories get lost in the shuffle.

The Joys of Moving to a Home Office

Well after a month and a half of trying to get out of our office building, We Finally Did It!!

Boy that was a lot of work!! And it's not over yet. Still have to get our email up and running.

Pros of working from home:

• Can Stay In Jammies if I want
• Save $$$ on gas
• Save $$ on childcare

Cons:

• Are there any?  :)
• Back to being with my boss (haha!)

Now I can focus more on my Pampered Chef business as well.  Anyone want to host a show??

Atlanta Storms

I have never been so freaking scared in all my life.  I was in class until 8.  Thankfully my professor let us out early, because the presenters didn't show up.  If she had kept us in until 7:45 pm, I would've been in trouble


I got to my car approximately 7:38 pm. It was only strong rain.  As I got on 75, it grew worse and the sky started getting that eerie green color in the sky. 


I was just ahead of the storm the whole way. At one point, everything was quiet and the chill in the air.


Thankfully as was well.  My body was so sore when I got home it wasn't even funny. Talk about a white knuckle trip.



My start to couponing has begun

So I decided to take this couponing head on.  It's definitely not easy and I know I just need to stay organized.  My hubby tells me that I have to stick with this.  I know I can and any tips are welcomed.

I was able to get the binder for $7 at Walmart.  The Business Card Holder pages are being taken back.  Found a better deal on Amazon.  100 pages of Baseball Card Holder pages for $15.  That has 1800 pcokets.  :)  Keep scissors and circulars in the pocket of your binder to have everything with you.  I am putting restaurant coupons in a separate envelope but in the binder as well.

KEEP BINDER IN YOUR VEHICLE.  You never know when you need to make a stop and you'll have your coupons with you.

STAY ORGANIZED.  There are many ways to make your system work for you.  I have the binder and a file box for other circulars that are dated and organized by type.  Such as RedPlum, SmartSource, etc.

Any other pointers that you have would be great.

My New Adventure

OK, so I got an invite from a friend that she wants to start a team for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk in Atlanta.  Initially I was like hmm maybe, now I'm all in.  There are 6 of us so far for the team.  I think it should really be fun. Then I think of 20 miles a day!!
Oy!

I had a friend do this a couple years ago in honor of her sister who is a survivor.  I know I can do it!  So who's with me?  Anyone else care to join us?  It's a great cause and I think it will be a lot of fun with the more people we can get. If you don't know anyone who's a survivor, walk to support women's health.

If you would like to donate, let me know.  We haven't officially formed our team yet, but I will keep track and email you when we do.

Trips

So life is what you make it?  With the economy the way it is, "Staycations" are becoming more popular.  What are your favorite places for your staycation? The best thing is to become a member of websites such as Groupon, Living Social and other discount priced websites. What websites do you use?

With this Spring Break, I took Ava to the local parks, movies and did gardening.  She seemed to like it. We did more bonding things, like working on her alphabet and other pre-school items, since we no longer have her in her school.

I am looking forward to the Summer coming up quickly.  Lots going on!

Upcoming Trips:

May-Michigan to see family and take care of Grammy. Yay! A whole week.  That never happens.

June-Chicago, IL for Rascal Flatts!  This is also Steve and I's foodie trip.  Steve wants an Italian Beef Sandwich so bad.  Never even heard of those until we saw a place on Food Network.

Demands, demands, demands

OK Parents.  Here's what I'm looking for.  I need advice on how to stop the 3 year old demands.  All I'm getting from mine is "I want." She is a sweetheart, but just want to curb the attitudes a little.  Any advice?

3 Year Olds

My daughter is my world and I know many parents have to laugh at their kids.  I say you have to hold onto all the good times, because with 3 year olds, we know they can be a handful.  My daughter tries everything to get herself out of trouble.

A very wise friend of mine once told me, "The Terrible 2s, The Fricking 3s and the F--king 4s." 

 I hold onto that thought every day, because I definitely think there is truth to that.
